The Spirit of the Fringe Comes to the Heart of Europe
The Vision: The Vienna Fringe Festival is a new international platform dedicated to the bold, the immersive, and the independent performative arts. It follows the concept of the Fringe Festivals around the globe, as its goal is to give the stage to performances “at the fringe” of theater. In a city world-renowned for its classical heritage, the Vienna Fringe promotes genres that overlap with nonconformism, creating a flow between tradition and the avant-garde.
Our Identity: Our symbol—the fusion of the Prater Ferris Wheel and the circular shape of a crimson tambourine—unites two icons, one a historic landmark of the Viennese entertainment culture, the other, an instrument associated with street theater par excellence. Both have accompanied the people of Vienna for centuries, gifting them amusement and diversion throughout their life.
The Experience: Located in the city of gilded playhouses, Vienna Fringe aims to be a nexus of genres for risk-taking artists, while offering a playground for curious audiences who want to watch a theater beyond its classical conception. From immersive and interactive shows to experimental performances, we are building a community where the walls between audience and artists are shattered and where everyone carries home a profoundly personal memory of the event.
